The Next Set – October 1st Edition
Presented by JUNO Award-winning drummer Ernesto Cervini, The Next Set is a monthly series at The Emmet Ray that brings together seasoned professionals and emerging voices in the Canadian jazz scene. Each concert features a rotating cast of musicians, pairing Cervini and a fellow pro with two outstanding young artists.
For the October 1st edition, the group features:
Avshalom Ravitz – alto saxophone
A dynamic second-year undergraduate at the University of Toronto, Avshalom is quickly gaining attention for his soulful tone and adventurous improvisation.
Evan Miles – piano
Currently pursuing his Master’s in Jazz Performance at U of T, Evan brings a lyrical touch and thoughtful harmonic sensibility to the bandstand.
Dan Fortin – bass
A highly respected performer and educator, Dan is known for his work with Myriad3, Bernice, and his own projects. He’s a Professor of Jazz Bass at the University of Toronto.
Ernesto Cervini – drums
A pillar of the Canadian jazz community, Cervini is a bandleader, composer, educator, and tireless advocate for the next generation of jazz artists.
Together, this intergenerational quartet embodies the spirit of The Next Set—mentorship, creativity, and the joy of collaboration.
