Ru & Harmeet Quintet, Best friends Ru & Harmeet co-lead a quintet featuring original compositions and modern jazz.
Ruthie Ha (saxophone) and Harmeet Kaur Virdee (bass) are friends who love to talk about the many mysteries of this world. The two are from British Columbia and have known each other for over six years. They grew close as friends and bandmates while working at the VSO School of Music Jazz Workshops as teaching assistants. Ru and Harmeet’s friendship is made very clear in the way they play and co-lead bands and they are thrilled to be performing at the Emmet Ray on February 2 for Ru’s Toronto debut!
Ru is a celebrated musician, arranger and composer based in Vancouver. They are a graduate from Capilano University’s Jazz Studies program where they studied with established musicians such as Brad Turner, Brent Mah, and Bill Coon. Ru draws musical inspiration from artists such as Alice Coltrane, Joe Henderson, and Pharoh Sanders.
Ru and Harmeet both believe in the power of expression through music and make an effort to create something meaningful that resonates with any listener. For their set, they will be performing a variety of each other’s compositions with their quintet. Through their compositions listeners will be transported to a beautiful sonic space that explores the sounds of colours, nature, and emotions.
