Join us this Halloween for an evening of hauntingly good vocal and piano jazz! Hear Madeline Moody and James Addis perform soulful ballads, celestial swing, and Halloween inspired favourites to celebrate the spookiest day of the year!
Madeline Moody is an emerging jazz vocalist who draws inspiration from the golden age of jazz while infusing her performances with modern style. Known for her warm, smooth, and sultry voice, she brings fresh perspective to timeless standards.
Madeline has been working as a vocalist since 2015, and while studying at York University trained under the instruction of notable musicians such as Sherie Marshall, Karen Burke, Mike Cado, and Mark Eisenman, as well as Chris Chinchilla.
With influences ranging from Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan to Amy Winehouse, Madeline’s performances showcase both technical prowess and emotional depth. Her presence on stage captivates audiences in intimate venues as well as larger concert settings.
James Addis is a dynamic up-and-coming jazz pianist who regularly appears solo, with his own trio, and as a sideman in various projects. Since first becoming interested in jazz at the age of 9 after seeing the Esbjörn Svensson Trio perform live, James’ love for the music has only intensified – he has developed a strong personal voice, inventiveness and sophistication which makes his performances exciting and distinctive. What truly sets James apart is his “big sound”, engaging and exciting the audience in the bluesy tradition of Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander, and Gene Harris.
James has performed with many notable instrumentalists, including Chris Potter, Barry Elmes, Aura Rully, Steve McDade, Mike Murley, Drew Jurecka, and Russ Little. James had the privilege of studying with Frank Falco, Mark Eisenman, Barry Elmes, Kelly Jefferson, and Mike Cadó during his time in the York University jazz program. Prior to university, he studied extensively with Louis Simão, Michael Occhipinti, Chris Donnelly, and John MacLeod. In 2016 and 2017, James was honoured to be selected to work with the legendary drummer Jeff Hamilton at the Centrum Jazz Workshop. James continues to be recognised as a rising star: he was showcased on JazzFM91’s Jazzology program with Heather Bambrick and selected to participate in the inaugural TD Toronto Jazz Festival Jazz Musician Intensive, led by bassist Mike Downes.”

They recommend listening to Black Coffee, and How High the Moon, as those are her personal favourites, and At Last because it is a studio recorded track that aired on jazz.fm a few years ago on their “Jazzology” program. They like to jokingly call it their radio single!
