Ellwood Epps Quartet, Creative Jazz

Boston trumpeter Ellwood Epps returns to his hometown for a second performance with his Toronto quartet. These dedicated improvisers will bring a set of Epps’ compositions to life. The music involves sounds dear to the composer, and seeks to involve the musicians as more than interpreters by entering a collective state of heightened possibilities.

Ellwood Epps is an improvising trumpet player, teacher, and musical organizer who lives in Boston. Born in Toronto, he lived for 16 years in Montreal, co-founding the Mardi Spaghetti series and the l’Envers concert space, performing with Josh Zubot, Jean Derome, Lori Freedman, and Steve Lacy. He appears on over 100 records, has toured across Canada and the US, and is currently the executive director of the Creative Music Series. Ellwood has been active for over 30 years teaching trumpet students and improvising ensembles.
