Georgia Korba Jazz Group
We are awaiting more info from the Band…
Georgia Korba began playing piano at six and picked up the upright bass at fourteen, discovering a deep connection to jazz in the process. Encouraged by her bass instructors, she pursued a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at Capilano University, graduating in 2007. She then spent several years touring across North America and Europe with a variety of jazz ensembles before settling in the Calgary area in 2011. Specializing in Traditional Hot New Orleans–style jazz, she has performed with groups such as Hopping Mad and the Big Bang Jazz Band, drawing inspiration from bassists like Slam Stewart and Pops Foster. Her time in Calgary also fostered a strong familiarity with Western Swing and an extensive repertoire in the style. After more than fifteen years away from university, Georgia is excited to be completing her MMus in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto. Her current interests include hot jazz history, solo bass repertoire, improvisation, equity and diversity in jazz and anything that swings.
