The Harry Vetro Quartet, Straight Ahead Jazz
The Harry Vetro Quartet is a Toronto-based jazz quartet featuring Harry Vetro (drums), Harrison Argatoff (tenor saxophone), Maxwell Stover (tenor saxophone), and Andrew Furlong (bass). With two saxophones, bass, and drums, their “cordless” instrumentation leaves room for playfulness, interaction, and exploration of sound.
All four musicians met through the University of Toronto’s Jazz Program, where they studied at different points. Harry and Harrison were classmates in the same year, Andrew was one year ahead, and Maxwell was two years below. They first connected through various U of T ensembles, forging musical friendships that continue to shape their collaborations today.
While this exact quartet has not yet recorded together, Harry and Harrison co-led the original Harrison Squared project, releasing the album Trout in Swimwear with Canadian jazz legends Mike Murley and Steve Wallace in 2020. That recording led to a cross-Canada tour funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
