Beautifully rendered. \nThe duo of Susanna Macdonald (voice) and Kevin Barrett (guitar) perform a quirky collection of jazz standards\, pop classics and folk songs\, with a particular emphasis on Scottish and Canadian composers. They have toured across Scotland and Canada\, and internationally. \nSusanna Macdonald is a singer/songwriter based in Edinburgh\, with a voice as clear as a bell\, and a knack for beautiful phrasing. \nKevin Barrett is a guitarist\, producer and composer based in Toronto\, Canada\, known as a passionate soloist\, a first-rate accompanist\, and a versatile and creative side musician. Susanna and Kevin met in Edinburgh’s famous Sandy Bell’s pub several years ago\, and perform together whenever geography and circumstance permit.

DESCRIPTION:Victor Monsivais\, Jazz + Bossanova \nVictor Monsivais \nJazz + Bossa Nova Guitar / Vocals / Percussion \nVictor Monsivais has been performing Jazz Standard and Bossa Nova\, as well as his own compositions. for over two decades in all kinds of events and venues; including the legendary Rex Hotel\, the Reservoir Lounge\, the Gladstone Hotel\, the Drom Taberna and The Lula lounge. \nHis repertoire draws from the greatest Brazilian composers\, such as Antonio Carlos Jobim\, Newton Mendoça and Ary Barroso; performing their original Portuguese versions. Also\, when performing Jazz Standards\, from composers such as Ellington or Van Heusen\, he renders the original versions. \nVictor is a vocalist\, songwriter\, and arranger\, who sings and plays the guitar\, with the true Bossa\, Swing and Latin beats; he also plays percussion and occasionally piano in his solo presentations. Weather playing solo or in a larger ensemble\, he brings to his performances that rarely heard hard-smooth Brazilian rhythm and harmony\, creating an aura of “”alegría & saudade”” which are the two basic ingredients of Brazilian music\, recreating the atmosphere of a quiet night in Copacabana; and invokes that indescribable mood and romance of a Manhattan evening when he performs jazz standards. \nHe is the founder and band leader of the Victor Monsivais Jazz Trio and Bossa Tres.

Formed in 2008 by bassist Michael Kaler\, the band has included close to 25 of Toronto’s most interesting musicians: the current lineup includes Chris Cawthray (drums)\, Arnd Jurgensen (guitar)\, Paul Newman (sax)\, Jamie Thompson (flute)\, Ben Walker (mandolin)\, and Andy Yue (keyboards). The Starfires have done residencies at the Tranzac and at Somewhere There (RIP!) and played the Toronto Jazz Fest: during the Covid lockdown\, they performed regularly in a front yard on St. Clarens Avenue. They’ve released several albums\, with another one on the way.
