SUMMARY:q&A\, Indie rock\, jazz\, and the whole shebang
DESCRIPTION:q&A\, Indie rock\, jazz\, and the whole shebang \nq&A is excited to present “”Tender is the…””. A two-act set detailing the nuance surrounding the idea of ‘tender’ – a state with a push and a pull. Many things come to mind when we think of the word tender. Perhaps a wound forming on your knees that you can’t touch just yet\, or maybe some feeling of love\, or quite simply loin. (tender…loin). Whatever your definition may be\, it is undeniable this word transcends its textual vessel. Join us as we communicate what tender means to us through music. \nTender is the one unafraid of touching not to reach but to feel. \nQuintina Liu – Voice \nAdam Bertolo – Bass \nSahej Rai – Drums \nJulian Duffy – Guitar \nLucas White – Piano

SUMMARY:Thomas Steele 10Tet\, Modern Jazz
DESCRIPTION:We do not take phone reservations\, email only\, reso@erbar.ca \nThomas Steele 10Tet\, Modern Jazz \n“The Thomas Steele 10Tet is a contemporary large ensemble based in Toronto\, Ontario. While a modern and contemporary group\, the music composed and performed by the group is rooted in the jazz tradition. The group consisting of members JUNO-winning saxophonist Tara Davidson calls “”exceptional young musicians with very bright futures”\, the 10Tet has performed across the most popular Canadian jazz venues since its inception in 2019. \nThe ensemble features four woodwinds\, two trumpets\, two trombones\, a pianist\, bassist and drummer. This ‘mini big band’ format allows the 10Tet to have the same energy as a larger ensemble\, while still focusing on creative compositions and improvisation. JUNO-nominated pianist Amanda Tossof notes the ensemble “”showcases compositions and performances that are highly creative\, and full of gorgeous harmonies\, textures\, and rhythmic interplay”. \nIn February 2021\, the ensemble released their debut record “10Tet”\, which achieved critical acclaim and has been heard across the globe. The record features seven pieces of original music written by Thomas and members of the ensemble\, and features ten of Toronto’s finest young musicians. \nAs time passes\, the group continues to expand their repertoire and look forward to continuing to compose and perform their innovative music for years to come. A group that JUNO-winning saxophonist Kelly Jefferson calls “a joy to listen to”\, the Thomas Steele 10Tet is an ensemble you do not want to miss!” \nThomas Steele\, David Hodgson\, Steve Carson\, Alex Manoukas (woodwinds); Kyle Pogline\, Christian Antonacci\, Angela Pincente\, Andrew Gormley (brass); Matthew O’Halloran (piano); Robert Lee (bass); Jackson Haynes (drums).

SUMMARY:Imaginary Lines Quartet\, Free jazz improvisation
DESCRIPTION:Imaginary Lines Quartet\, Free jazz improvisation \n“The Imaginary Lines Quartet is an improvised free jazz group made up of Walter Gershon from Philadelphia on saxes and percussion\, and Canadians Jonathan Kay on saxes\, Brandon Davis on bass\, and Joe Sorbara on drums. Taking its name as a point of departure\, the trio works across imagined (political) boundaries\, treating boarders\, categories\, and fixed identities as something to be transgressed as a condition to co-create new flows of sonic becoming. \nGroup members Walter Gershon\, Joe Sorbara\, and Jonathan Kay met during the 2023 Sound\, Meaning\, Education Conference\, co-hosted by the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI) at the University of Guelph. They first recorded together at Silence in Guelph\, Ontario on May 22–23\, 2024 and released their first record\, “”The Passport Sessions”” on Bandcamp (https://imaginarylinesquartet.bandcamp.com/album/passport-sessions). \nWalter Gershon – saxes/percussion (Philadelphia) \nJonathan Kay – saxes \nBrandon Davis – bass \nJoe Sorbara – drums

The city’s thriving jazz culture and venues such as The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar have helped establish Toronto as one of North America’s most active jazz communities\, making it an ideal environment for the group’s continued artistic growth. \nBeyond the music itself\, a John Troy Group performance is about creating an experience. Audiences can expect authenticity\, high-level musicianship\, spontaneous interaction\, and an infectious energy that reflects the excitement of live jazz at its best. Whether you’re a lifelong jazz listener or experiencing the music for the first time\, the performance offers something for everyone—swing\, groove\, creativity\, and the shared excitement that can only happen in a live setting. \nAs the John Troy Group continues to expand its presence throughout the Greater Toronto Area\, each performance represents another step in building cross-border musical connections between Buffalo and Toronto while showcasing original music\, collaborative artistry\, and a commitment to keeping jazz vibrant\, relevant\, and exciting for modern audiences. \nJohn Troy | Woodwinds \nAndrew Marzotto | Guitar
