SUMMARY:Ladyfinger with Diane Roblin\, keys; Kayla Milmine soprano sax; with special guests Jonathan Kay and more
DESCRIPTION:Ladyfinger with Diane Roblin\,keys; Kayla Milmine soprano sax; with special guests Jonathan Kay and more \nLadyfinger with Diane Roblin (piano\, keyboards) and Kayla Milmine (soprano sax) is an ensemble of two distinguished players within Toronto’s creative music scene. They are composers of original music and interpreters of compositions by jazz greats like McCoy Tyner and Carla Bley. Jazz music is all about improvisation and interpretation\, and it’s clear that Ladyfinger is a group that takes this approach to heart. By creating their own original compositions and interpreting the works of established jazz composers\, they are able to showcase their own unique musical voice while also paying tribute to the artists who have inspired them. Both playful and expressive they explore their original compositions through whimsical dialogues and progressive improvisation. … Diane Roblin is a composer\, pianist/keyboardist\, improviser and band leader. A student of world\, electronic and jazz music\, she participated in NYC’s Karl Berger/Ornette Coleman’s workshop as well as in the Dutch Improv Academy with Hans Bennick. From rockin’ Rough Trade to avant- garde musician Charles Gayle\, her performance experience has been eclectic. Her acclaimed Life Force band performs her original jazz-funk compositions at renown venues. As a global improviser\, Diane is also a member of Sarah Weaver’s NowNetArts international telematic ensemble. She has performed throughout Europe\, Mexico\, UK\, and North America. Diane is a member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers. \nwww.dianeroblin.com. Kayla Milmine loves the new and under-explored sonic possibilities that only the soprano saxophone can offer. Her unique approach has the edginess and brashness of Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell yet also a warmth and thoughtfulness reminiscent of Steve Lacy. In 2019\, Milmine released a solo album called ‘Straight Horn Magick’; a mixture of field recordings and solo soprano saxophone improvisations\, followed by another solo album she released in 2022 called ‘Moods of Yellow’. She plays regularly in trio form with vocalist/dancer Susanna Hood\, and pianist Tania Gill\, and in duo form with pianist Diane Roblin in their project called ‘Ladyfinger’. In February 2019\, she was invited to record with celebrated bassist\, William Parker in a chamber-improv sextet in NY\, where she often travels to study with mentor/collaborator\, Sam Newsome. She is co-founder \nof the Women From Space Festival in Toronto. \nhttps://sonomadicrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ladyfinger-live-2 \n  \nDiane Roblin – piano\, keys: \nKayla Milmine – soprano sax; \nand guest Jonathan Kay- reeds

SUMMARY:Elite Travelers\, Surf-Jazz + Exotica with Chris Cawthray
DESCRIPTION:Elite Travelers\, Surf-Jazz + Exotica with Chris Cawthray \nElite Travelers is the latest configuration of Rob Price and Chris Cawthray’s ongoing musical collaboration. 2026 will mark the 20th year since their first gig (a trio show with saxophonist Mariano Gil at the legendary Brooklyn dive bar\, Freddy’s)\, and the beginning of two decades of touring and recording in various ensembles in the USA and Canada. While the band names and band members have been varied\, the core of their collaboration remains the pairing of Price’s surf-influenced guitar playing and the rootsy\, freewheeling drumming of Cawthray. Based in Toronto\, Chris Cawthray first discovered Rob Price via his 2004 release “”At Sunset””. Replying to an address in the CD’s liner notes\, Chris sent Rob a copy of his 2005 EP “”The Fruits of Our Limitations””; a mutual appreciation soon developed and the idea was hatched to begin travelling between Toronto and New York to perform each other’s compositions which has prospered ever since. \n2026 will see the release of the Elite Travelers 6-song EP on vinyl and streaming\, and features the talents of Jay Nugent (of the legendary NYC ska band The Slackers)\, recorded at the end of 2024 at Conveyor Studio in Brooklyn\, NY. SUMMARY:Brad Tollman: guitar and vocals\, Singer-songwriter.
DESCRIPTION:Brad Tollman\, Singer-songwriter. \nBrad Tollman is a singer and songwriter from Toronto. The music he has written over the past 5 years is playful\, romantic\, and coy. He has taken great inspiration from The Ronettes\, The Beach Boys\, and many other 60’s California bands. His newer material is more pointed and politically minded\, since numerous wars and inequalities have been on graphic display. \nHe balances these two sides of himself—the playful and the political—with grace and with character. Both take a level of vulnerability to display\, and he invites his audience to drop their guard along with Brad. \nBrad Tollman—guitar and voice

DESCRIPTION:Ready for Success with Tony Quarrington\, Eclectic swinging standard-like originals \nThis new band of veteran players got together to do what ended up being a year-long residency at Toronto’s Imperial Pub\, recently closed after 81 years. To the band’s already large repertoire of jazz standards ( and not so standards) Tony Quarrington and Zoey Adams brought a whole bunch of original songs from their 8 previous recordings. These take in a lot of genres\, from sassy swing to moody ballads to sensuous Latin\, and are sometimes sung in Spanish or French. \nTony Quarrington guitar\, vocals \nZoey Adams. vocals \nBruce Tatemichi piano\, sax\, flute \nChester Manoharan\, electric bass \nPierre LeGendre\, drums \n  \n  \nREADY FOR SUCCESS is a new band of veteran musicians who have recently completed a year-long Friday residency at the renowned Imperial Pub (now defunct).
