SUMMARY:Ready for Success with Tony Quarrington\, Eclectic swinging standard-like originals
DESCRIPTION:Ready for Success with Tony Quarrington\, Eclectic swinging standard-like originals \nThis new band of veteran players got together to do what ended up being a year-long residency at Toronto’s Imperial Pub\, recently closed after 81 years. To the band’s already large repertoire of jazz standards ( and not so standards) Tony Quarrington and Zoey Adams brought a whole bunch of original songs from their 8 previous recordings. These take in a lot of genres\, from sassy swing to moody ballads to sensuous Latin\, and are sometimes sung in Spanish or French. \nTony Quarrington guitar\, vocals \nZoey Adams. vocals \nBruce Tatemichi piano\, sax\, flute \nChester Manoharan\, electric bass \nPierre LeGendre\, drums \n  \n  \nREADY FOR SUCCESS is a new band of veteran musicians who have recently completed a year-long Friday residency at the renowned Imperial Pub (now defunct). They are a five-member jazz band who perform some standards\, but mainly focus on original instrumental tunes and songs by members Tony Quarrington (guitar/vocals) and Zoey Adams (vocals). These two have released seven albums of their compositions\, and in 2025 they joined forces with the trio of Bruce Tatemichi (piano/sax/flute)\, Chester Manoharan(bass)\, and Pierre LeGendre (drums). Besides their long residency\, they have performed at the Tranzac\, My House in the Junction\, and Momiji. As yet unreleased is a live recording made at the Imperial in its last weeks.

SUMMARY:JAMES BROWN\, Art Of Anthem Ensemble\, Chamber Jazz Reimagined
DESCRIPTION:JAMES BROWN\, Art Of Anthem Ensemble\, Chamber Jazz Reimagined \nThis group emerged after the recording of James Brown’s album Anthem for Everyone. This engaging and genre-blurring project features an eclectic lineup of Toronto-based musicians\, including bassist Clark Johnston\, and vocalist/pianist Hannah Barstow. \nThis unique chamber jazz ensemble features vocalese (wordless singing)\, violin\, piano\, acoustic bass and guitar. \nThe set list includes Brown’s reimagined bilingual arrangement of Canada’s national anthem\, “O Canada\,” composed by Calixa Lavallée. Other features are tunes with original lyrics and arrangements of music by Joni Mitchell. \nBrown’s exploration of the intersection between jazz and classical music is showcased in this group as is his ever growing catalogue of original music. \nArtist Background \nBorn in 1967 in Oakville\, Ontario\, and raised in Burlington\, James Brown began guitar lessons at age 13. He later pursued classical guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto while also immersing himself in jazz through informal jam sessions. \nHis debut jazz album\, First Dance (1998)\, featured top-tier Toronto players Ernie Tollar (saxophones)\, Andrew Downing (bass)\, and John Obercian (drums). Brown went on to release The Home Fields (2002)\, Sevendaze (2009)\, and Song Within the Story (2022). Collaborators across his discography include Don Thompson\, Mike Murley\, Jim Vivian\, Anthony Michelli\, Mike Milligan\, and Quinsin Nachoff. \nJames Brown guitar Hannah Barstow vocals/piano\, Clark Johnston bass
