Garaj Mahal Jam, Interpretations of jazz standards old and new, favouring the funky, soulful and bluesy. Latin vibes too, especially Brazil.

Garaj Mahal Jam came out of getting together during Covid to do what we love while gigs were limited. Lots of improv, composing and experimenting in the jazz and Latin jazz traditions with many of Toronto’s finest joining in.

Matt Newton is an amazingly skilled pianist, Bret Higgins on double bass is also composer for soundtrack, and drummer Tim Shia is leader of famous Worst Pop Band Ever, and all are sought after sidemen. Peter Smith has been around since CDs were a thing and hosts the Garaj Jams.
